Produit scalaire et projeté orthogonal

Définition

Dans le plan, on considère une droite (AB)(AB) et un point CCextérieur à cette droite. HH le projeté orthogonal de CC sur la droite (AB)(AB) est l'intersection de (AB)(AB) et de la perpendiculaire (AB)(AB) passant par CC.

Propriété

Soit A,BA, B et CC trois points distincts du plan et HH est le projeté orthogonal de CC sur (AB)(AB). On a alors :AB.AC=AB.AH\overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AC} = \overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AH}

Plus précisément, si HAH\neq A, il y a deux configurations possibles :

  • AB\overrightarrow{AB} et AH\overrightarrow{AH} ont même sens, alorsAB.AC=AB.AH=AB×AH\overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AC} = \overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AH} = AB \times AH

  • AB\overrightarrow{AB} et AH\overrightarrow{AH} sont de sens opposés, alorsAB.AC=AB.AH=AB×AH\overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AC} = \overrightarrow{AB}.\overrightarrow{AH} = -AB \times AH
